THERMO-LAMP MAINTAINANCE
Electrophorus lamps will run endless hours without any maintenance.
For achieving maximum maintance intervals , that could be years apart, two conditions must be met.
- Have always a sufficient fuel level in the tank (more that 1/5)
Very low fuel level in combination with a high fuel drain, results in a charred wick. Wick does not need trimming anyway (only upon installation) since due to forced air to flame nature of the burner, the charred part of the wick is burnt. Eventually when wick gets too short, it will have to be replaced - Operate the generator without any sooting. Some lampblack inevitably builds up on the finned portion of the heat exchanger during the start up phase, especially if i am a bit sloppy. But during operation and as time goes by, the parts get hot and this lampblack is burnt away by the high temperatures.
Nevertheless, if we leave the generator run on the low airflow region for prolong periods of time, lampblack will be built up everywhere (glass, upper portions of heat exchanger, chimney ring and eventual onto lamp’s arms and “hat”) then a cleaning will be required.
So far i had not to do so.
